Steven Leibel

Steven Leibel has been practicing law since his graduation from Emory Law School in 1980. Best known for winning the highest jury verdict in Georgia history — $776 million in a wrongful death lawsuit arising from the tragic murder of the Sheriff-elect of  Dekalb County, Georgia— Mr. Leibel has also been named a Super Lawyer for  five consecutive years by his peers.

In 1988, Mr. Leibel began representing individuals in serious personal injury, medical malpractice, and wrongful death cases. His successes include recovering extensive damages for the  death of a high school student whose pneumonia was misdiagnosed; receiving a record recovery in a case involving a neurosurgeon who performed unnecessary back surgery, debilitating a client;  resolving the death of an unborn infant due to medical malpractice; receiving extensive damages for the family of an elderly gentleman who died in an assisted living facility due to negligence; resolving a tractor- trailer accident which caused traumatic brain injury to a young adult.
An active member in the community, Mr. Leibel serves as a Municipal Court Judge for two cities.
He is a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, and the Atlanta Lawyers Club. 

Mr. Leibel is a graduate of both Leadership Sandy Springs and Leadership Lumpkin County, and serves as a Commission Member of The Brain & Spinal Injury Trust Fund for the State of Georgia.  He is  also a member of the board of The Marcus Institute, and First Citizen’s Bank of Georgia, .   Mr. Leibel is also admitted to both  the Georgia  and  District of Columbia Bar.   He has lectured at the State Bar Association Annual Update Seminar, and is a member of NGCSU Business Advisory Counsel.

Mr. Leibel graduated from the renowned Bronx High School of Science with Merit in 1973. He received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Queens College of the City University of New York in 1977. He then completed Emory Law School, where he was elected President of the Emory International Law Society.   In 1986, Mr. Leibel graduated first in his class from the North Central Police Academy at West Georgia College. He has served as legal advisor to many police chiefs and sheriffs, and acted as a sheriff's deputy and police officer from 1986 to 2000.
Mr. Leibel writes expert columns for the 400 Edition Magazine and the Southern Beverage Journal.

Thaddeus R. Sobieski, Of Counsel

Thaddeus ("Sobie") has been associated with Steven Leibel since 1980, He serves in an "Of Counsel" capacity and focuses primarily on labor law matters in relation to the Labor Management Relations Act (LMRA) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)..

During his distinguished military career, Sobie served in several capacities. He served with the U. S. Army Air Corps from 1945-1946, the Infantry from 1951-1955 and with the U.S. Army Reserves as a Major from 1955-1969 and as a Colonel from 1970-1987. He was also an instructor at the Infantry School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Sobie was awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals, serving with the 7th Regiment, 3rd Division, 1952-53 in Korea, as a company commander.

From July 1958 through December, 1989, Sobie was employed with the National Labor Relations Board where he investigated and tried labor cases under the LMRA. He was a supervisory attorney during the last 15 years of his employment there.

Sobie graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1951 with a B.A. degree and from the Emory University School of Law with his Doctor of Law degree in 1958. Sobie is a member of the Atlanta Lawyers Club and is active in the Labor Law Section State Bar, having been a Past Chairperson. Currently, he is Judge Advocate with the General Raymond G. Davis Korean War Veterans Chapter of Atlanta and was a Past President with this Chapter. In addition, Sobie is a Lifetime Member of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States.

He resides with his wife Rosa Marie.
